Florida deputies are calling a local dog a hero after he led officers to his injured owner’s mother, who’d fallen while taking him for a walk. Late last month, an elderly woman in Shalimar took her son's dog, Eeyore, for a walk, accidentally tripped on the sidewalk and couldn’t get back up. When she didn’t return home, her husband reported her missing, leading deputies to search the neighborhood. An officer found Eeyore and followed him as he guided her straight to the injured woman’s location.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office shared the story on social media this week, writing, “Some heroes wear collars! 🐾” Body camera footage captured the moment the deputy told the woman how the dog had led them to her. Overcome with gratitude, the woman said, “He wouldn’t leave, he kept coming back to me… I’m not even his owner — I’m his grandmother. Oh Eeyore, you’re a good boy, grandma loves you.”
Officials praised Eeyore’s loyalty, noting that his instincts helped rescuers reach the woman quickly and safely. The sheriff’s office says the pup’s actions were a perfect reminder that heroes truly do come in all shapes… and species.
