Daily Do Good: Toddler Saves Mom When She Collapses From Seizure

Last week, Pontiac, Michigan, three-year-old Cody Woods saved his mother’s life after she suffered a seizure and collapsed while they were home alone. Shantell Woods, who has epilepsy, lost consciousness while cooking, leaving Cody as the only one able to act. The toddler used her phone’s facial recognition to unlock it, then FaceTimed their family friend and neighbor, Kaya.

Immediately sensing something was wrong, Kaya rushed across the parking lot to check on Woods, and called 911 to get her medical help. At first, she thought the mom had made the call before passing out but later learned it was Cody who contacted her. Woods says her son has seen her have seizures before, which helped him know how to respond during the emergency.

The community is celebrating Cody’s quick thinking with some locals promising him free ice cream for the rest of the year. Woods, who’s had more than 20 seizures in recent months, says she’s proud of her son and is calling him “my hero.”
