DDG: Man Raises Thousands To Help Homeless Man Get Back On His Feet

John Ferber of Boca Raton, Florida, has raised over $5-thousand to help secure housing for a homeless man he met at a bus stop. After learning that 67-year-old Peter Martin lost his job in 2023 and has been living on the street, Ferber decided he wanted to help him. Inspired by similar efforts he’d seen on social media, he started a crowdfund campaign, quickly raising enough to allow Martin to move into a studio apartment.

Martin says his time on the streets has been difficult. He’d often go several days without food and suffered two heart attacks. Once a professional chef, he now hopes to put his decades of culinary experience to work again. He describes Ferber’s kindness as “a big gift” and says he’s deeply moved by the generosity and compassion shown to him.

Ferber says he admires Martin and believes this is just the first step in rebuilding his life. He hopes their story will inspire others in the community to take small actions that create meaningful change. “I’m glad you’re not on that bench anymore,” he tells Martin, adding, “And I’m here with you.”
