Earlier this week, two-year-oldΒ Jaylen JohnsonΒ went missing from his familyβs home in Tampa. His parents last saw him on Monday evening when they put him to bed, but discovered he was gone the next morning. They immediately called 911, prompting a large search effort by the Hillsborough County Sheriffβs Office.
More than 200 officers, including K-9 units and bloodhounds, drone operators, and an aviation unit, searched the area around the apartment complex where the family lives. Jaylen was later found safe by a nearby resident, and it turns out, the familyβs pit bull had stayed with him the entire time he was missing. The toddlerβs mother says the dog protected her child throughout the night.
With their baby home, Jaylenβs parents were relieved and say they plan to add new safety measures at home, including changing the door locks to ensure doors canβt be opened easily. The family is grateful for the outpouring of support and the positive outcome.
