A hike in New England’s White Mountains turned into an unexpected rescue when a group of Scouts from Cape Cod crossed paths with a family needing help on Mount Lafayette. As daylight faded, the family’s daughter, who’d been struggling to stay on her feet, needed to be carried the rest of the way down.
Jack Borowski and Brodie Perry, both high school seniors and longtime Scouts, offered to take over. With only a few minutes of light left, they lifted the young woman and carried her more than two miles to the base camp in the dark.
The Scouts had been hiking that day, led by Jack and Brodie. Jack has already earned his Eagle rank, and Brodie is scheduled to receive his in January. Their younger troopmates were there to see the older boys live out the Scout motto, do a good turn daily.
