Earlier this week, police in Louisville, Kentucky, released body-cam footage of a coordinated search last month for a missing three-year-old boy. Officers scoured the neighborhood on foot with drones and a helicopter assisting from above. Search crews feared the worst as neighbors told them the child may have headed toward a nearby property.
When officers approached the property, a barking dog repeatedly tried to get their attention. Officer Josh Thompson with the Louisville Metro Police Department says he was cautious at first because the dog was “barking, chirping at me a little bit,” but the animal kept returning to the porch and then moved toward the backyard. They followed as the dog led them straight to a locked vehicle where the toddler was found inside, scared but unharmed. As they celebrated the end of the tense search, an officer could be heard saying, “Lassie found him!”
The child was quickly reunited with his grateful family. In a post to social media, the department praised the “outstanding work by our officers, and a four-legged friend who reminded us that heroes come in all forms.” Hundreds of commenters celebrated the dog’s actions, with one writing, “the dog is the real HERO.”
