Daily Do Good: Boy Saves Man’s Life With CPR 24 Hours After Learning It

In Richland, Michigan, a nine-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero for saving a man’s life at church just one day after learning CPR at school. Logan Vangemert, a fourth grader from Martin, acted quickly in early February when a church leader collapsed from cardiac arrest. While others hesitated, he stepped in and began performing chest compressions.

Logan had learned hands-only CPR less than 24 hours earlier and relied on that training in the emergency. After several minutes, an AED was used to restart the man’s heart, and he later made a full recovery following surgery and a pacemaker procedure. Logan says he felt guided to act and immediately responded when the situation unfolded.

Following the incident, he was honored by his school, local authorities, and the American Heart Association for his actions. Students and teachers gathered to celebrate Logan, and his mother expressed pride in his response during the emergency. He’s since shared that he hopes to pursue a career in medicine in the future.
