DDG: Donations Pour In For Homeless Man Who Found Stolen Dog’s Ashes

A homeless man in Seattle is getting support from the community after helping return stolen memorial items belonging to a family’s late Chihuahua. Holly and Brandon Dunn say their car was broken into in Seattle’s University District, and the thief took several belongings, including the ashes, ceramic paw prints, and a memorial stuffed animal connected to their dog, Tia. The items were later discarded in a dumpster inside a bag.

Chris, who has been homeless for seven years, found the bag and kept it, realizing the contents might be important to someone. After spotting flyers the Dunn family had posted around the area, Chris contacted them and returned the items without asking for anything in return. Kathryn Michie, who helped distribute the flyers, later organized a crowdfund to support Chris.

The fundraiser has raised more than $64-hundred to help him move into his first apartment and cover expenses including furniture, rent, and care for his dog, Reo, who he rescued from the streets. In a recent update, Michie says Chris was overwhelmed by the response and thanked donors for supporting him.
